A study by Age Wave and JAHF found that only 1 in 10 older adults give the U.S. health care system a top grade, while 82% believe it is unprepared for an aging population. Key concerns include cost, accessibility, and a lack of empathetic care.
Health care doesn't have to be that way, the author notes. Age-friendly care - focusing on the 4Ms: what Matters, Medication, Mind and Mobility - respects older adults as individuals, and improves overall well-being. Dr. Fulmer writes, "This is a call to action for all — patients, families, and health care providers alike — to advocate for a system and future that is truly age-friendly."
