Joint Statement in Support of COVID-19 Vaccine Mandates for All Workers in Health and Long-Term Care

Due to the recent COVID-19 surge and the availability of safe and effective vaccines, our health care organizations and societies advocate that all health care and long-term care employers require their workers to receive the COVID-19 vaccine. This is the logical fulfillment of the ethical commitment of all health care workers to put patients as well as residents of long-term care facilities first and take all steps necessary to ensure their health and well-being.

Statement on the George Floyd Murder Verdict

In the words of our Surgeon General, Vivek Murthy, MD, “This verdict can't bring back George Floyd or erase the wounds of ongoing racial injustice. But the millions who spoke up for justice remind us change happens when we have the courage to stand up for one another. Let us not stop until all can live with safety, dignity and respect.” The John A. Hartford Foundation will continue to review and improve our internal processes, train our staff, and continuously review our requirements in grant proposals related to diversity, equity and inclusion. Statement on Alleged Undercount of New York State Nursing Home Deaths Due to COVID-19

"While accurate data on the effects of COVID-19 in nursing homes are essential, the number of deaths in nursing homes has been far too high, regardless of the number. We need to radically rethink the role and design of nursing homes, how to support staff, and ensure guidance from public health leaders is followed, in order to protect residents and staff. We can and must do better and that will require collaboration across the political spectrum and between government agencies, nursing homes, and the communities they serve."

Statement on $523M to 9,200 Nursing Homes for Meeting COVID Reduction Measures

“HHS announced today that it will again provide incentive payments for nursing homes that have been able to meet the incentive program's infection control criteria and meet or exceed the expected COVID-19 mortality rate for their facilities. We can anticipate that there will be reviews that examine what it means to successfully meet these criteria. But in the meantime, these 9,200 nursing homes are desperate for additional financing and this comes just in time during this second surge. Protection of residents and health care workers is paramount in this difficult era and these funds provide the resources needed to ensure…
