AHA Blog: America’s Hospitals Are Transforming Care for an Aging Nation
JAHF President Rani E. Snyder and Dr. Chris DeRienzo, chief physician executive at the American Hospital Association (AHA), have co-authored an AHA blog on how hospitals across the U.S. are transforming care for older adults.
The authors highlight how hospitals are responding to the needs of a growing older population through new technologies, hospital-at-home programs, the 4Ms Framework of age-friendly care, and specialized geriatric emergency care. The blog also points to evidence of progress, including more than 6,100 health care organizations recognized as Age-Friendly Health Systems and research showing better outcomes for older adults treated in accredited geriatric emergency departments.
