ASA Webinar: Addressing Ageism - Part 1: Societal View of Ageism
The American Society on Aging (ASA) is hosting a webinar May 3 on, "Addressing Ageism Part 1: Societal View of Ageism," the first of a two webinars on ageism.
Ageism is ingrained in our society and culture whether we like to admit it or not. The way older adults are referenced and depicted in the media, popular culture and even in the health and beauty industries helps to paint a picture that aging is something to dread and make light of. These depictions also help to reinforce negative mindsets and stereotypes about growing older. As professionals, we need to be aware of how ageism impacts our work with the older adults we serve and recognize opportunities to reinforce positive views of aging.
ASA's two-part webinar series, Addressing Ageism, is:
- Part 1, "Societal View of Ageism," will discuss the prevalence and implications of ageism in today's society, particularly in interpersonal spaces, media, and popular culture.
- Part 2, '"Ageism in Healthcare," will discuss opportunities to improve healthy aging in the healthcare system.
Speakers for the first webinar include:
- Molly Carpenter, MS, Workforce Director at Home Instead
- Lakelyn Eichenberger, PhD, Gerontologist at Home Instead
This series is part of the ongoing series, Empowering Professionals in Aging, hosted by ASA.
