BMC Health Services Research Users perspectives on a demonstration to increase shared access to older adults patient portals

BMC Health Services Research has published a paper, "Users’ Perspectives on a Demonstration to Increase Shared Access to Older Adults’ Patient Portals."

The Coalition for Care Partners and three healthcare delivery organizations co-designed an initiative promoting shared access to patient portals for older adults. The 12-month demonstration was launched in five clinics and gathered insights from clinicians, staff, patients and care partners through focus groups, interviews and surveys.

The study suggests that shared access to patient portals can be effectively promoted through low-cost, user-friendly initiatives. To enhance adoption, authors recommend policy considerations such as making shared access an opt-out feature and emphasizing the benefits while addressing potential privacy concerns.
