CMS Innovation Center New Dementia Model: Guiding an Improved Dementia Experience (GUIDE) Model

CMS New Dementia GUID Emodel post

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) hosted a webinar August 10 about it's new voluntary nationwide model, Guiding an Improved Dementia Experience (GUIDE) Model, and is accepting letters of interest through September 15.

CMS announced that the GUIDE Model - which aims to improve the quality of life for people living with dementia, reduce strain on unpaid caregivers and enable people living with dementia to remain in their homes and communities - will be tested by the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation. CMS is accepting letters of interest through September 15 and will release a GUIDE Request for Applications (RFA) in Fall 2023.

Through the GUIDE Model, CMS will test an alternative payment for participants who deliver key supportive services to people with dementia, including comprehensive, person-centered assessments and care plans, care coordination, and 24/7 access to a support line.

JAHF, in partnership with the Education Development Center, convened a roundtable in 2022 in Washington, DC, that addressed practical questions important to payers interested in funding comprehensive dementia care models, and have been developing recommendations around payment for comprehensive dementia care.
