FW New Fact Sheet Unwinding Medicaid Continuous Coverage Protections What Advocates for Older Adults Need to Know 1

Justice in Aging released a fact sheet, "Unwinding Medicaid Continuous Coverage Protections—What Advocates for Older Adults Need to Know," that unpacks the implications of dual eligibility redeterminations and presents a pathway for advocates to ensure smooth transitions for dual eligibles.

The Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2023 (CAA) passed by Congress will allow state redeterminations of Medicaid eligibility from February 2023 onwards. Dual eligible individuals, being at higher risk for disability, experiencing higher rates of poverty, and often needing more communication accommodations, face significant challenges navigating this redetermination process.

The Justice in Aging fact sheet is both an informative resource for advocates for older adults and a call-to-action for stakeholders to work jointly with state departments to protect vulnerable, dual beneficiaries from losing life-saving benefits.
