GEDC Webinar Recording: Reframing Aging in the Geriatric Emergency Department
The Geriatric Emergency Department Collaborative (GEDC) held an expert panel webinar about "Reframing Aging in the Geriatric ED" on May 15.
Ageism, a form of systematic discrimination based on age, can negatively impact the health of older adults and deter effective care delivery for older adults. This webinar discussed the concept of ageism, its impact on clinical practice in the geriatric ED, and how ageist attitudes can be mitigated in the ED. Webinar speakers talked about a major initiative to address ageism, Reframing Aging. This social change endeavor seeks to improve perceptions around aging and reframe the contributions of older adults in society, and it can be used to help ED clinicians shape conversations around aging in the geriatric ED.
The panelists included:
- Marcus Escobedo, MPA, Vice President Communications, The John A. Hartford Foundation
- Nida Degesys, MD, Director of Geriatric Emergency Department, University of California at San Francisco.
- Dyan M. Hagy, MSW, Emergency Department Social Worker, Cleveland Veterans Administration
- Brittany Palladino MSN, CNL, RN, Nurse Care Manager Emergency Department and Observation Units, Yale New Haven Hospital
- Don Melady, MD (moderator)
