HCCI Course: Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion for Home-Based Care
During National Minority Health Month, the Home Centered Care Institute (HCCI) launched a new free course entitled “Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion for Home-Based Care.”
This free on-demand course addresses the complex and multifaceted topic of health equity by discussing power and privilege, implicit and explicit bias, inferred cultural preferences, and more, especially relevant for providers working with patients and families in their homes. While the course targets home-based primary care (HBPC) providers and those interested in HBPC, non-clinical staff members can also benefit from understanding implicit bias as they support interactions with patients and caregivers (such as scheduling or billing). At the same time, those in leadership will learn how to engage better and retain high-performing, diverse teams.
Course Takeaways:
- Define the importance of assessing and promoting DEI practices for your house call program.
- Identify and develop clinical and operational best practices for culturally sensitive home-based medical care.
- Incorporate DEI and cultural competence principles into a patient-centered plan of care
- Implement a formal DEI internal initiative for recruitment and retention within your house call program.
