Health Affairs: Call for Submissions for New Cycle of Papers for Age-Friendly Health Series
Health Affairs is refreshing its series on Age-Friendly Health with a new cycle of papers that will run through June 30, 2028. Submissions are now being accepted for this JAHF-sponsored series.
The overarching goal of the Age-Friendly Health series is to improve care for older adults by helping to guide the federal, state, and local policy agenda through empirical studies and thoughtful, incisive commentary. Health Affairs is interested in work that spans the full range of care settings, including primary and specialty care, hospitals, nursing homes, assisted living facilities and home and community-based care.
Below is a list of topics of particular and equal interest and authors are encouraged to consider other relevant issues as well:
- Age-Friendly Care
- Family Caregiving
- Serious Illness and End-of-Life Care
- Public Programs
- Workforce
- Social Determinants of Health
- Innovative and Emerging Models of Care
- Long-Term Services and Supports
- Innovative Use of Technology
- Rural Health
- Disparities and Equity
The journal is particularly interested in papers that examine these and other issues through a disparities and equity lens. Visit the announcement page for more information on the types of papers Health Affairs considers, topics of greatest interest, and the submission and selection processes.
The journal plans to publish 18 to 21 journal articles over the series, as well as 12 to 15 articles in Health Affairs Forefront. With the renewal of the series, Health Affairs will also incorporate Community Voices into the content to reflect the lived experience of older adults at the community level.
There is no deadline for submissions; papers on these topics will be considered on an ongoing basis. However, it is expected that papers will deal with topics of interest in a timely way so that the arguments and data presented are relevant to current policy concerns.
Health Affairs Forefront also has a call to older adults and to those working with older adults to submit to their Age-Friendly Health Through Community Voices submissions. Learn more and submit by March 9, 2026.
