Journal of Gerontological Nursing Paper: Age-Friendly Care for All - Making a Global Difference One Older Adult at a Time
The Journal of Gerontological Nursing has published an editorial article, "Age-Friendly Care for All: Making a Global Difference One Older Adult at a Time."
The editorial, by Donna M. Fick, PhD, GCNS-BC, AGSF, FGSA, FAAN, and Terry T. Fulmer, PhD, RN, FAAN, highlights the global spread and importance of the Age-Friendly Health Systems (AFHS) initiative 4Ms Framework (What Matters, Medication, Mentation and Mobility) for optimizing care for older adults. It outlines how age-friendly practices can improve care delivery and person-centered outcomes across health systems.
This paper appears in the Journal of Gerontological Nursing's first of two 2026 Special Issues focused on the AFHS initiative - a result of the journal's call for papers. The February 2026 Special Issue emphasizes implementation and sustainability of the 4Ms in acute care settings. A second Special Issue is scheduled for March 2026, and will feature papers from community, home health, ambulatory, and long-term care settings.
