National Alliance for Caregiving and PHI Issue Brief: Together in Care - Empowering Direct Care Workers and Family Caregivers to Meet Growing Demand for Care
National Alliance for Caregiving (NAC) and PHI have released a new issue brief on, "Together in Care: Empowering Direct Care Workers and Family Caregivers to Meet Growing Demand for Care."
Direct care workers and family caregivers are the backbone of the older adult care force, but they often lack support. Developed through the Together in Care initiative, this brief contains recommendations to empower direct care workers and family caregivers to enhance home and community-based services, including:
- Integrating direct care workers and caregivers into care teams through training, technology and regulatory change.
- Expanding access to self-direction programs to increase flexibility and reduce economic challenges.
- Increasing matching services registries that connect individuals and families with DCWs based on criteria like location, credentials and experience.
- Investing in research to develop evidence-based practices that strengthen the relationship between direct care workers and family caregivers.
