US Office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion Interview with GSA's National Center to Reframe Aging

GSA Reframing Aginginterview

The US Office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion (ODPHP) Director, Rear Admiral Paul Reed, met with the Gerontological Society of America (GSA) National Center to Reframe Aging Executive Director, Trish D’Antonio, BSPharm, MS, MBA, BCGP, to talk about reframing aging.

Paul Reed and Trish D’Antonio discussed the importance of highlighting older people’s contributions society and addressing ageism and some of the misconceptions we collectively have about aging. The conversation covered an array of issues and offered in-depth thoughts on reframing aging and on our views and ideas around aging.

“Ageism is any kind of discrimination towards older people,” D’Antonio shared. “When we think about definitions of ageism, it goes a little more deeply to think about not only the external ageism that we may experience, but our own internalized ageism. It’s a constant battle, and one that really has health implications for us all.”
