The Reframing Aging Initiative Video Series: Frame of Mind

Reframing

The National Center to Reframe Aging has released a new short video, "Confronting our Implicit Bias About Aging," in its Frame of Mind series. The videos can be found on ReframingAging.org and provide brief lessons on how to communicate about aging in ways that build support for policies and programs that can help all of us as we age.

The Frame of Mind video series includes:

  1. "The Why and How of Reframing Aging" - explains why our incomplete understanding of aging perpetuates negative stereotypes of older people and how we can do something about it by changing the way we communicate about aging. The video goes a long way to explain reframing aging.
  2. "Reframing Aging From Them to Us" - encourages people to use inclusive terms like “we” and “us” rather than “they” and them” since aging is a shared experience. The video is designed for advocates, teachers, and communicators who serve and care about older people.
  3. Starting Strong, Avoiding Traps” - highlights specific terms to avoid and themes to advance. It is designed for advocates, teachers, and communicators who serve and care about older people.
  4. "Confronting our Implicit Bias About Aging" - talks about how making our implicit biases towards aging visible can change attitudes about aging, influence policies and programs and help all of us live more active and meaningful lives as we get older.

The National Center to Reframe Aging at the Gerontological Society of America is supporting a long-term social change endeavor designed to improve the public’s understanding of what aging means and the many ways that older people contribute to our society. This greater understanding will counter ageism and guide our nation’s approach to ensuring supportive policies and programs for us all as we move through the life course.
