World Elder Abuse Awareness Day: Join Us in Building Stronger Supports for Older Adults

World Elder Abuse Awareness Day National Center on Elder Abuse

Join us and our network of grantees and colleagues on June 15 to recognize World Elder Abuse Awareness Day (WEAAD) by using the below resources.

World Elder Abuse Awareness Day (WEAAD) was launched by the International Network for the Prevention of Elder Abuse and the World Health Organization at the United Nations. The purpose of WEAAD is to provide an opportunity for communities around the world to promote a better understanding of abuse and neglect of older persons by raising awareness of the cultural, social, economic and demographic processes affecting elder abuse and neglect.

The Elder Justice Coordinating Council and the Administration for Community Living-funded National Center on Elder Abuse are holding a series of events to highlight WEAAD including:

  • WEAAD 2024 Webinar: Decision-making in Later Life June 11.
  • Elder Justice Coordinating Council Meeting June 12. The EJCC was established by the Elder Justice Act and is comprised of 17 federal departments and agencies to coordinate activities related to elder abuse, neglect, and exploitation across the federal government. The June 2024 meeting will celebrate the first 10 years of EJCC accomplishments and lay out the plan for the Council’s next decade of elder justice commitments.
