Diverse Elders Coalition Updated Training Curriculum: Caring for Those Who Care - Meeting the Needs of Diverse Family Caregivers

Diverse Elders Coalition SAGECARE caring for those who care training

The Diverse Elders Coalition (DEC) has launched an updated "Caring for Those Who Care" training curriculum, now available on the SAGECare platform.

The refreshed curriculum equips healthcare, social service and aging professionals with culturally affirming best practices to better support diverse family caregivers and older adults. It builds on the DEC's 2019 national caregiving research and incorporates updated findings from the DEC's 2025 literature review.

The training explores the lived experiences and needs of caregivers from a range of communities, including:

  • African American and Black caregivers
  • American Indian and Alaska Native caregivers
  • Chinese American and Korean American caregivers
  • Hispanic and Latino caregivers
  • LGBTQ+ caregivers
  • Southeast Asian American caregivers
  • Direct care workers, including those who are also caregivers

Participants will gain insights into the cultural, structural and systemic factors that shape caregiving experiences and learn strategies to better support diverse caregivers and the older adults they assist.
