Health Affairs is hosting a Forum on April 24 in Washington, DC, on "Health and Housing Needs for US Seniors in the Middle Market."

The "middle market" of older Americans are those who are unable to afford private-pay senior housing but have too many resources to qualify for Medicaid. This Forum will release new quantitative research and launch policy conversation around meeting future long-term care and housing needs for middle-income seniors. Presentations include:

  • 'The Forgotten Middle: Many Future Middle-Income Seniors Will Have Insufficient Resources for Seniors Housing and Care,' Caroline Pearson, Senior Fellow, University of Chicago and David Grabowski, Professor, Harvard Medical School
  • 'Facilitating Societal Adaptation to Aging,' John Rowe, Professor, Columbia University
  • 'What Can Be Done to Better Support Aging in Community,' Jennifer Molinsky, Senior Research Associate, Harvard University

The John A. Hartford Foundation is a co-sponsor of the briefing, and has supported Dr. Rowe's work on The John A. Hartford Aging Society Index and the State Aging Index.
